Bob Osborn

Chicago & Mackinac Railroad

Multi-deck, walk around, point-to-point, operation oriented layout located in a 2 car garage. 280+ feet of single track mainline with passing sidings. Layout utilizes a partial mushroom design with raised floors, and includes four towns and a yard at either end of the layout. Scenery is progressing.

Operations are purposeful but fairly relaxed using FRS radios, timetable, verbal track warrant control (TWC), car cards and waybills. The C&M is powered by EasyDCC wireless throttles. Operating positions include a superintendent, dispatcher, two yardmasters and 5 road crews handling the passenger operations, through freight service and local switching.

The C&M is a freelanced railroad that could have been. It runs from Fort Wayne, IN to Mackinaw City, MI, where it interchanges with northern railroads via a boat ferry. Only Grand Rapids northward to Mackinaw City is modeled. At Grand Rapids, the C&M interchanges with the PRR, GTW, C&O and NYC.

The C&M website is www.cmrailroad.com.
